From Sunday Stretch to Sunday Stride: A Walk Through LA State Historic Park

Sometimes Sunday Stretch stays on the mat. And sometimes it turns into something bigger, like a Sunday Stride, out in the world, moving forward and paying attention.

Los Angeles State Historic Park, Butterfly Way Station

This weekend, I took my stride through Los Angeles State Historic Park, a quiet, open stretch of land right next to the Metro tracks and the movement of the city. One side of the path hums with trains. The other opens up into trees, wildflowers, and dirt trails with a full view of City Hall. It’s LA in one frame: motion, reflection, grit, and sky.

Messages in the Movement

The park doesn’t just offer room to walk it speaks back to you. Scattered through the space are large concrete planters, each with a quote etched into its side and I couldn’t help but slow down at each one. They weren’t decorative. They were witnesses.

One planter told the story of an immigrant arriving in LA with nothing and being helped by someone who offered food without judgment. Another reminded me that “sharing is about survival” a sentence that hit like a bell in my chest.

These weren’t just inspirational messages.
They were quiet truths, grounding the space in real people, real histories, and the kind of wisdom you don’t always get from signs.

🧡 A Sweatshirt and a Reminder

I walked in a grey sweatshirt my sister gave me.
On the front: “The world needs your magic.”
And on the back:

Yes, you. Reading this.
You’re irreplaceable. You’re unique. You’re special. You’re loved.
You are the only you.
And the world needs you.
It needs your magic.
Don’t forget it.

That message sat with me as I passed by the monarch way station, paused at the chain-link fence to watch the Metro pass, and stood still with a full view of City Hall.
Movement doesn’t have to be fast to be powerful. Sometimes, just walking and noticing is enough.

📍 Enjoy This Space

If you’re in LA and haven’t walked Los Angeles State Historic Park, here’s your sign.
It’s layered, reflective, quiet, and alive.

Bring water, wear what feels like you, and let the park talk back.

Small Joys, Big Wins

Shout out to the clean bathrooms at LA State Historic Park.

It’s wild how much that matters when you’re out moving, hydrating, and handling your business like a grown-up on a mission. A clean stop can turn your whole day around. Gracias.
