It’s Not the Gear. It’s the Movement

I’ve been down for a while. Some recovery time. Some quiet. Some reevaluating. And now that I’m back on my feet, and in the right mindset, I’m figuring out what still works, and what’s done its time.

I’ve also been needing new trail shoes for a minute. And then I got an Amazon gift card at work for $25. Not exactly a full gear budget, but a push. Enough to make a decision, and a small step. My decision is: how is how do I want to spend my time? Where does my attention take me when I have completed all of my tasks?

Answer: It takes me back to the other kind of grind, this one.

I saw a pair of trail shoes listed at $50 in black and grey. Solid. Safe. But then I saw the same pair in light pink on sale for $27. No brainer. I got the pink ones.

Here’s the thing: Movement isn’t about fancy gear.
It’s about what works. What carries you. What doesn’t rub or restrict or distract you from your own rhythm.

Sometimes people are surprised to see me in my workout gear. Sometimes, even I’m surprised. It’s bright. The vibe is loud. But guess what? I’m not even on that, I’m free out there.

On the trail, in the water, on my bike… I don’t care if it’s the “right” brand or if the colors match. I care that I’m visible. I’m safe. That I’m not making dumb decisions, with my time or my money, my body, my safety and I feel good. Cause let’s be real, other parts of the journey, the miles, the climbs, the blisters, etc, those are going to hurt. Those are going to be challenging and uncomfortable. I want to get in there with the right gear for me. And that’s something only I can figure out. What I like, what moves and flows with me.

I love my gear because I earned it. I test it. I keep what holds me up. And sometimes? You just get what you get. The bonus? Everyone sees me coming.

I’ll share more about how they held up soon, but for now, they’re already part of the movement.
