We Still Walk

I recorded our shadows on the ground while walking, just a few seconds. Nothing dramatic. Just movement. But the more I watched the clip, the more I felt the quiet power of it.

Some days the world feels loud. Too much news, too much pressure, too much uncertainty. But the walk? The walk is still mine.

Currently, there is a feeling of unease and unrest in Los Angeles. And for me, as a self-employed person, there’s a quiet version of that same unrest. It’s slow. I’m open for business, but no one’s coming by. The work is there, but it’s not moving. And still, I have to move.

Because to stay still is to give up. To stay still is to die. But to move? To move is to seize the opportunity to make something of it. And where there is none, to move is to create one for yourself. I can’t imagine ever staying still. Because imagine what I might miss.

Even when we don’t know where it’s going. Even when we’re quiet. Even when no one sees us coming. We still walk. We still show up. We still move forward, together, or parallel, or just close enough to matter.

The shadow knows. The rhythm is real. We still walk. We still open for business. We still get dressed and take the calls, take the jobs, and stay ready to head out. Because business might be slow, the world may be in chaos, but me? I. Am. Not.
