My Moon Lamp, My Peace: Why I Use a Himalayan Salt Lamp at My Bedside

I didn’t buy it because it was trendy. I bought it because I needed peace. At the time, my desk was wild, stacked with deadlines, wires, noise, and stress. The work wasn’t going anywhere, but I knew my relationship to the work had to change. If I wanted to keep going, I had to enjoy the space I was working in. I had to protect my calm.

That’s when I got the Himalayan salt lamp in the shape of a moon. It’s USB-powered, simple, glowing just enough to remind me: stay present.

At first, it lived on my desk. That was its job, to ground me. But eventually, it migrated to my bedside. And there, it found its calling.

The Benefits? Real or Not, I Feel Them.

There’s a lot of talk online about what Himalayan salt lamps might do. Some say they:

  • Improve air quality by attracting pollutants to the salt surface

  • Release negative ions, which can boost mood

  • Help reduce stress and support sleep by soft, amber light exposure

Are all of those claims backed by hard science? Not really. But here’s what I can say:

The soft glow helps me disconnect. The round shape makes me smile. And that simple act of plugging it in? It tells my body, “It’s time to come down.” That’s real enough for me.

My Setup: Powered Peace

To keep my nightstand organized, I run everything through a multi-plug extension cord (it's mounted for easy reach, with double sided tape), and I labeled each charger with electronic cord tags so I don’t unplug the wrong thing mid-scroll, and I use the cord tag.

Here’s what’s usually on my table:

Final Thought

Sometimes wellness is loud, that looks like protein shakes, gym reps, long walks. And sometimes it’s quiet, a warm lamp, a cleared surface, a pause before sleep. This isn’t just about a lamp. It’s about making space to come back to yourself. Sin límites. Even in stillness.

I mentioned this moon lamp before, briefly, in a post about rest. Because this is part of my rest.

Stay tuned for more about true rest soon.
