Aging Strong: Why I Move for the Life I Want to Live
California is aging, and so am I. By 2030, one in four Californians will be over the age of 60. That number stopped me in my tracks today. It’s not just a statistic. It’s a wake-up call. Because if you’re lucky enough to grow older, you have to get honest: What kind of future are you actually preparing for?
I’ve spent years putting work first. I’ve poured myself into raising my daughter. I’ve stayed busy with obligations, responsibilities, survival. That season had its place. But now, I’m in a different place, a critical one.
I’m not just moving to move. I’m training for the life I still want to live. For the hikes I still want to take. For the moments with my family I still want to fully show up for. For the adventures I haven’t yet dreamed up.
I may not have all the answers about long-term care or retirement plans. I know it’s hard to think that far ahead when life is so demanding right now. But here’s what I can do:
I can move my body.
I can sharpen my mind.
I can stay present.
I can stay strong.
Aging doesn’t have to mean shrinking. It can mean becoming more intentional, more grounded, more resilient. Planning for the future isn’t always about paperwork and policies, it’s also about strength, stamina, and mindset. It’s about preparing this body, this brain, this spirit, to keep participating in life.
If you’re reading this and you’ve been waiting for the perfect moment to start moving again, to prioritize yourself again, let this be it. Not for perfection. Not for vanity. But because your future self is watching. And you’ll want to meet them with strength, clarity, and love.
Stay ready. Stay Sharp. Stay Active. Move with purpose. And always #MuéveteSinLímites.
