A Moment of Stillness (Try It With Me)
Lately I’ve been challenging myself to stop and listen, literally. To pause. To be still. To take a mindful moment in the middle of whatever else is happening.
When I’m out in the city, running errands, working, heading from one assignment to another, I’ve started treating Los Angeles like a living classroom for awareness. If I pass a fountain, I stop. Even if it’s just for 30 seconds. I breathe. I watch the water move like it’s putting on a private show just for me. I listen to the sound, let the rush and splash drown out the noise in my head, and I let my shoulders drop.
Then I breathe again before I move on.
It’s a tiny reset button I didn’t even know I needed.
Sometimes I wish I knew ahead of time that there would be a fountain waiting for me—because I’d bring my journal. I’d sit down and write right there by the water. But most of the time, it's spontaneous. Instead of grabbing my notebook, I bring you all with me. I think about the people who walk with me through these posts, these videos, these reflections. I think about what I would write if I had the page open.
Maybe that’s the point: stillness doesn’t always have to be planned.
Sometimes you just arrive at it.
If you’re reading this, here’s your invitation to try it:
The next time you see a fountain, or anything beautiful and moving, stop.
Breathe.
Let yourself watch it like a show made just for you.
It’s only a moment, but it gives you back more than you expect.
Below is a little piece of my recent fountain moments. May it meet you exactly where you are.
