Red for the New Year: Still Moving Forward
This year started with a pivot. Like a lot of freelancers, I felt the shift in the economy and the political climate. Work changed. Opportunities slowed down. Schedules became less predictable. I had to make decisions about stability and direction. So I adjusted.
I turned my small business into more of a part-time operation and stepped back into teaching within my main skill base. I don’t always define myself by one title, I see myself as a freelancer, an architect, a builder, someone who creates paths and structures over time. Right now, teaching is part of that structure.
And honestly, I’ve been working hard. Hard enough that I’ve been a little too tired to write. But that doesn’t mean FormaFit Active stopped.
In the spaces between workdays, I’ve still been walking, moving, and staying connected to the city. FormaFit has always been about real life, not perfect routines, and sometimes real life means building quietly.
Still moving.
Still training.
Still observing.
Still living active.
Red for the New Year
Red for the New Year.
This red hat and red sweater felt right for the New Year.
Red is strength. Red is movement. Red is forward energy. Not the loud kind, the steady kind. The kind that keeps going even when things shift.
Walking Through Lunar New Year, Monterey Park, CA
Recently I visited the Lunar New Year Festival in Monterey Park.
Every year the streets fill with food vendors and ride operators, and families come out to celebrate. It’s lively and welcoming, the kind of event where you can walk for hours without noticing time passing.
At first you might expect rows of merchandise, souvenirs and decorations for the Year of the Horse but that’s not really what defines this festival.
Instead, what stands out is the opportunity to learn and connect.
There are cultural organizations sharing information. Community groups offering resources. Small businesses serving authentic Chinese food. Families passing traditions down to younger generations.
It feels less like a marketplace and more like a living cultural space. You don’t just attend. You participate. You observe. You learn. You move through it. And for someone building an active life in the city, it’s the perfect kind of outing, walking, exploring, and staying connected to the people and cultures that make Los Angeles what it is.
What a great event. Watch some of my walk through here:
Still Building
Even when I’m tired, I’m still building FormaFit Active. Not every season is about expansion. Some seasons are about stability. Some are about adjustment. Some are about quiet progress. Right now is one of those seasons. But the movement continues.
Step by step.
